Engineering Sustainability Day Sustainability does not happen by chance. It must be engineered. That’s why, each year on or near Earth Day in April, faculty and students from the University, interested people from other schools, and guests from industry and government are invited to come together for The University of Maryland Energy Research Center’s Engineering Sustainability Workshop. The goal of the workshop is to present and propose ways to maximize technology's positive impact on the long-term availability of natural resources, and to minimize its negative impact. The workshop offers presentations from University of Maryland faculty and discussions in which all may participate. At the conclusion of the workshop, a list is made of new ideas for sustainability initiatives proposed by attendees; this list will be posted on this website for future reference and possible development and execution. The Center for Research in Extreme Battery (CREB) will be holding a joint workshop on the same day. Plenary sessions will include both CREB and other participants, while the breakout sessions will run in parallel. Undergraduate and graduate student poster sessions will follow in the afternoon.
